Our Pure Amazake is handcrafted with great patience and care.

It is simply made from Spring Water, Rice Koji* and Organic Rice from Rue & Forsman Ranch. It has a rich, creamy and smooth texture.

This is concentrated amazake and is also known as "Ama-Koji" (which means "sweet koji"). From this jar, you can make up to four amazake drinks/lattes. Or you can use it as a healthy sweetener for tea/coffee, yogurt, toast or anything else! You can also use it to make dressings or marinades.

The sweetness of our Amazake comes from the power of Koji and our time-honored methods of fermentation. No commercial enzymes are used. Also, our Pure Amazake is Non-Pasteurized, making it rich in probiotics, essential amino acids, vitamins and live enzymes.

What is Amazake?

First, amazake is pronounced AH-MAH-ZAH-KEH. Amazake is a Japanese traditional, fermented and naturally sweet rice condiment and drink. It has been a special source of nourishment  in Japan for 1400 years. 

There, Amazake is enjoyed year round and is particularly popular during the new year. During the Edo period (1603-1868), Amazake was taken as a fatigue recovery drink in the hot summer months due to its powerful nutritional and restorative benefits.

Amazake is very popular in Japan nowadays because of its health and beauty benefits, and known in Japan as an “I.V. drink”.

It is made from rice, rice koji and water and has a slight aromatic koji flavor. Amazake can be served either cold or hot, mixed with your favorite drink, latte or smoothie, or used for cooking as a sweetener and for umami flavor.
